Booster Club Meeting
September 15, 2008
The meeting was opened at 6:30 p.m. by N. Jankowski.
I. ELS Annual Volleyball Tournament.
a. Programs: J. Arldt will prepare
b. Concessions: There will be hot dogs and chips served for lunch on Saturday, R. Puckett will purchase and S. Crisp will cook. Pizza, ordered by R. Ford for Friday evening games. There will also be a concession table and popcorn throughout the tournament.
c. Admissions will be 5.00 per adult and 1.00 per student for daily game admissions. A senior discount will be given for those over 65, information will be placed on the Church web site by A.James.
d. R. James reviewed the brackets and game times. ELS will play on Friday at 4 and at 6, Saturday at 9. Game schedule is posted on the school web site under Athletics, Volleyball, and Schedule. Semi-Finals are at 11 and Noon, Finals at 1 p.m.
e. First Aid kit and ice bags will be brought to the school by B. Williams.
f. A. James will get 6 bags of ice, for concessions and water coolers, per day for the tournament.
g. K. Lorenz will set up the PA system for us.
h. K. Woody, S. DeBruhl and E. Hiler will sing the National Anthem during the tournament. R. Puckett will arrange Color Guard with Scout Troops for both days.
i. S. Crisp will run the scoreboard on sat. with N. Jankowski filling in during lunch prep. C. Slocumb will run the scoreboard on Friday.
j. J. Arldt will manage refilling trash bags and paper towels in bathrooms during the tournament.
k. R. James will hang the Conference banners prior to Friday; N. Jankowski will notify him when they arrive.
l. Soccer parents will man the concessions and the admissions tables.
II. Homecoming
a. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary year, ELS will host a Soccer and Volleyball game with Concordia Lutheran of Hickory on Friday the 26th of September.
b. We need an individual to wear the mascot costume…no decision.
c. R. James will recognize former athletes and coaches during half time of the game.
d. We will prepare a dinner of hot dogs for after the games and offer to all attendees. R. Puckett will obtain the supplies. C. Slocumb will obtain chili for the hot dogs.
e. We will also have an Ice Cream Social following dinner with present and former athletes serving. It will be an “ice cream sundae” bar. W. Rice has tried to obtain the ice cream at a discount however the company no longer makes frozen food items. Therefore we need to have someone purchase these items from Sam’s.
f. The gym will be decorated with poster collages of all sports teams, past and present. Supplies for these posters are in N. Jankowski’s room. Each team coach is responsible for assigning individual(s) to create these collages and turn into N. Jankowski by Thursday morning, September 25.
Further decorations will be done with “Spirit Posters” by the different grades and purple and white balloons.
g. The principal has asked that the Booster Club carry the cost of the ice cream social. Following the tournament, R. Ford will distribute to all members an accounting of the financials so that we may make a determination as to this request. It is suggested that we split the cost with the school.
III. Soccer Conference Tournament
a. Volleyball parents will be running this tournament. N. Jankowski will furnish a work schedule.
b. There is a conflict with the Volleyball Tournament which occurs on the 30th. Parents of Volleyball players are not available as the daughters are playing at that time. There was also concern expressed about the length of daylight hours remaining at that time of year and the children playing in the dark. N. Jankowski will speak with the conference members and notify us of their decision.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15 p.m.
