Booster Club Minutes 05-05-09
Present: Jankowski, James, Parris, Stroud, Crisp, Williams, Ford, Swatzell, Arldt, DeBruhl, Reaves, Harrington, Puckett, McFarland
Meeting began at 6:30 pm with prayer by N Jankowski
- Welcome by Rodney James
- Rhonda Ford distributed the Profit and Loss statement for November through May. It was suggested that a review be done of tournament costs and expenses, perhaps increasing team participation fees if needed
- Athletic Banquet is on May 12. Mo's is catering the dinner. Booster Club will pay 25% of the costs and tickets are being sold for 7 dollars each. Coaches and Athletes are not charged. Head count is due on Wednesday May 6. Trophies will be distributed and the cost for each trophy was paid in the participation fee for the athlete.
- Rhonda Puckett will pick up the trophies on Monday, May 11. Rhonda Ford will collect tickets at the door the night of the banquet. Brenda McFarland will pick up the cake from Sams on May 12. Jill Arldt will pick up the balloons at 4 PM on May 12 at Party Blvd on Long Shoals. Nancy Harrington, Shari Reaves, Teresa Debruhl and Kathy Hiler will help set up and decorate after school on May 12. Williams, James, Parris and Crisp families will clean up afterwards.
- Volleyball and Soccer '09: Rhonda Puckett Head Coach and Nancy Harrington Assistant Coach. Practices will begin the week before school begins. Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for September 17 and 18. Asheville Christian Academy, Hendersonville Christian, Bethel Christian, Concordia and St. Stephens will participate, confirmation has been received from all teams. St. Stephens team will be using the gym for sleeping quarters during the tournament. Are still in search of a soccer coach for the boys.
- Booster Club Cookout will be August 28 at 5:30 PM. Will implement homework pass for all students whose parents attend this and all meetings during the year. Nancy Jankowski will e-mail over the summer what help she will need for this cookout.
- Banner program. Two to three people are needed to head up the banner program for the Booster Club. Exemptions will be given for any and all other work during the school year to these individuals. It was suggested that an incentive be given to school families to sell a banner(s).
- Christmas Parade. Have not yet determined if ELS Athletics will participate in the '09 parade. If so, there will be a need for someone to take charge of this. Participants will need to be more structured, Rhonda Puckett suggested having athletes hold the banner, the float to follow and the cheerleaders to come behind the float in their routines.
- Sunday, August 30 will be Emmanuel Athletic Sunday. Athletes ( in uniforms ) and Coaches will come to all three services and serve as lectors, greeters and ushers. Game Passes will be given within a Thank You card to all Senior Church members and game schedules distributed.
- Golf Coach for '09 is David Utz.
- Girls Soccer Tournament is May 15 and 16.
- Discussion was held as to paying coaches. Direction is being sought from Parish Administration. Banner program can supplement the pay. If pay is given, coaches children pay participation fee; if no pay, no participation fee is charged. Median salary for coaches is 500.00 per sport in this area and within the private school sector.
- All practices will be closed in the future.
- Nominations were held for President, Secretary and Treasurer for next year. Rhonda Ford has agreed to serve as Treasurer, Prisicilla Pressley as Secretary. Names were submitted to Nancy Jankowski for President and she will contact those individuals.
